Survive Planet 5 - a kid's survival workshop

Survive Planet 5 - a kid's survival workshop

$50.00

Our spaceship has crashed on the fifth planet of a remote and strange solar system. With only the supplies we can scavenge from the alien forest and the wreckage of our escape pod, we must provide for ourselves and find enough equipment to build a device to signal for help. Are you ready for a science fiction survival adventure? Can you Survive Planet 5 ?

During Survive Planet 5 - we’ll imagine that the group has been stranded on a strange alien world, and we’ll learn real wilderness survival skills from someone who has been teaching it for 30 years.

Survival expert Tim “Mac” MacWelch will teach your kids about the REAL survival skills they could use if they become lost in the woods here on Earth - but we’ll do it through a fun and interactive science fiction scenario!

These are half-day events and we are offering a version for kids 8-12 years old and a more challenging version for teens. Each event will run from 1 PM to 5 PM

The kids will need to work together to learn and use outdoor survival skills (that should work on any habitable planet). The kids will also need to complete challenges to get “supplies” (snacks), and look for the parts of our “distress beacon” to signal for rescue.

This is a legitimate survival class.

It’s also an opportunity for play, imagination, team building, social skills, and even an “Easter egg hunt” to find the parts of the distress beacon - all while immersed in a Sci-Fi setting. From our private woodland camp, the kids will:

  • Learn how to build a survival shelter and tie basic knots

  • Make fire (and receive a stern fire safety lecture)

  • Locate water and disinfect it

  • Signal for help

  • and more!

Logistics:

  1. All tools and materials for the crafts and projects are provided by us.

  2. A parent, grandparent, or other adult will need to stay onsite for the duration of the 8-12 year old event. This is not a “drop and go” event or babysitting service. We prefer to have one adult per family group, and have that adult participate. Teen siblings may also enroll in the 8-12 event if they want to join younger family members.

  3. During the teen-only event, teens may be dropped off, though the adults are highly encouraged to stay. Teens will need to bring their own bag lunch and drinks for the day.

  4. Clothing (for parents or kids) can be normal “street” clothes during the event, but we highly recommend wearing clothing that has a Sci-Fi appearance.
